News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To stage a play titled "Quilters," you need quilts.
Of course, quilts are not hard to come by in Sisters, where a group of some 25 "Heritage Quilters" created traditional quilts to be featured in the musical which will be presented at Sisters High School on Tuesday, July 7 at 7 p.m. and on Friday, July 10 at 1 p.m. in conjunction with Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.
Heritage Theatre Co. of Bend is producing the play. The cast, accompanied by banjo, dulcimer, fiddle, guitar and mandolin, is directed by Janet Kingsley with music director, Jean Shrader.
The play centers around vignettes of a pioneer woman and her family.
"Every scene in that play features a quilt," said Quilt Show executive director Ann Richardson.
Westminster Fabrics and Stitchin' Post donated materials for the quilts, which will be sold for $250 each. Proceeds from the musical and the sale will be divided among Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, Heritage Theatre Co. and Sisters Family Access Network.
