Little League ending season on high note

The final games of the 2009 Sisters Little League season are being played this week. Over 150 Sisters-area youth played baseball and softball this spring.

There is a lot more in store.

For the first time, the league will hold a season-closing ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the Sisters Community Church ball fields.

All players, assembled in their jersey or cap, will receive their Sisters Little League pin. They can also play pick-up ball and feast on a free barbecue from the snack shack hosted by the league's board members.

League President Davina Luz will announce the results of voting for all-star team membership. The selected players will represent Sisters in District Five All-Star tournament play, scheduled for June 26 in Hermiston.

There is a chance that Sisters Little League will host the junior and senior baseball all-stars in July. A decision was not available at press time. Winners in district play advance to state finals later in the summer.

On Thursday, June 18 Bend Elks Baseball Club will host "Sisters Little League Night." Players who wear their jersey or cap are admitted to the Elk's game for free. A player's friend also receives free admission. Game time is 6:30 p.m. at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend. Sisters Little League players and friends will be presented during the game.

The league's fundraising for field maintenance continues until October. "Pizza Cards" cost $10 and are good at Coyote Creek Café, Ken's Old Fashion Pizza, Papandrea's and Martolli's Pizza. When cardholders buy a large pizza, they get a small pizza free.

Cards are available at the restaurants, Hoyt's Hardware, the Sisters Park & Recreation District office, the snack shack and from any Sisters Little League board member.
