News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
On June 9, 2009 at approximately 7 a.m., the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office responded to Seasons Café & Wine Shop for a reported burglary in progress.
Black Butte Police also responded to the area to assist Sheriff's deputies.
While responding, deputies learned that the suspect, later identified as Andrew Sherrell, had entered Seasons.
A witness in the area was able to provide Sheriff's deputies with a description for Sherrell and information placing Sherrell in the area at approximately 6:15 a.m.
The same witness also heard "kicking sounds" just prior to seeing Sherrell walking away from the area.
Sheriff's deputies were able to confirm that Seasons had been burglarized and the method of entry was a door that appeared to be kicked in.
The business reported an undisclosed amount of cash taken.
No other items were reported to be missing or damaged.
Approximately one hour after the original report, Sheriff's deputies located Sherrell walking in the area of North Tamarack Street and East Cascade Avenue.
Sherrell matched the witness's description of the person walking away from Seasons prior to the burglary being reported.
A Sheriff's Office Sergeant attempted to contact Sherrell, believing him to be a person of interest.
As the Sergeant attempted to contact Sherrell, Sherrell immediately fled on foot.
After a short foot pursuit, Sherrell was taken into custody without incident.
Through further investigations, Sheriff's Office deputies confirmed Sherrell as the individual responsible for the Seasons Café & Wine Shop burglary.
Sherrell was also found in possession of heroin at the time of his contact.
Deputies learned that Sherrell's motivation for committing this crime was to obtain money to purchase heroin.
At this time, Sherrell has been lodged at the Deschutes County Jail.
Deputies will be returning money found in Sherrell's possession to Seasons.
This money was reported by Sherrell to be the proceeds from the burglary.
Investigations are continuing into the possibility of other crimes associated with Sherrell.
