Arbor Mortgage opens Sisters branch

Kathy Kemper Green had a plan when she moved into the Bend office of Arbor Mortgage Group: In two years she'd be back in her hometown of Sisters in a branch office.

That plan came to fruition last week as Arbor Mortgage Group opened its new branch in Sisters at 257 S. Pine St.

"She's been doing enough business that we wanted to set her up in her own office," said Arbor co-owner Rob Moore. "We've been expanding and growing in this marketplace, so Sisters made sense."

Expansion and growth seem like unusual words to attach to a mortgage business these days, but Moore and co-owner Brian Albrich said that Arbor Mortgage Group was well-positioned to weather the economic storm that hit the industry.

"We've been doing business the right way; we've aligned ourselves with the right partners and we've got the right people," Albrich said.

Kemper Green added that, "Everybody works really, really hard. We don't wait for the phone to ring."

Arbor Mortgage Group handles a full range of residential mortgages, from first-time buyers to second-home buyers or those seeking investment properties.

Contrary to the broad perception, banks are loaning money, Kemper Green said.

Moore said that home purchases are picking up, indication of the beginnings of a turnaround in an almost completely stalled market.

"I would say that in January, 90 percent of what we were doing was refinance," he said. "I'd say now it's 50/50 (with purchases)."

Both Moore and Albrich credit Kemper Green for the impetus to move into Sisters.

"Kathy can make things happen just through her sheer personality," Moore said.

Arbor Mortgage Group will celebrate with a ribbon cutting on June 23 at 5:30 p.m.

For her part, Kemper Green is thrilled to be able to work in her hometown, close to her kids and where she can reintegrate herself into the Sisters business and sports community.

"I'm just really, really happy to be back in Sisters," she said.
