Christine Black, of Sisters, passed away June 6, of pancreatic cancer. She was at home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Rison, Arkansas on October 1, 1931, and moved to Bradwood, Oregon when she was 9 years old. She was the daughter of Frank and Georgia Brazeale.
Christine graduated from Westport High School in Westport, Oregon, in 1949. She continued her education at Oregon State University in Corvallis, earning her teaching certificate. She was employed at Blue Cross of Oregon for 25 years when she retired in 1988.
Christine married her high school sweetheart, Irvin Black, on December 28, 1951, in Westport, Oregon. She and her husband lived in Tigard, Oregon raising their four children and enjoyed clam digging and spending time at the Oregon Coast camping before moving to Sisters in 1999.
She loved cooking, working in her garden and sewing for her children and grandchildren. She loved the Oregon Coast, picking up driftwood. She cherished spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchild. Her family considered her the most dedicated, loving wife, mother and grandma - not only to her own family but all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Irvin of Sisters; daughter Elaine Church of Sisters; son Greg Black of Gaston, Oregon; daughters Sue Stevens of Montana, and Peggy Koch of Sisters; grandchildren Travis, Cody, Rory and Nicholas Koch; step-grandchildren Jennifer, Stephanie and Melissa Church and one great-granchild, Will Koch.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 27, at 1 p.m. at Sisters Community Church. She asked that donations go to the American Cancer Society.
