News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Leslie King moved to Sisters in April "looking for a change."
Within a month, she had it - a brand new gift and specialty store called Abigail's on Main.
The shop offers unique gift and specialty items crafted by local and regional artists, ranging from pottery to King's own hand-crafted bath and body products and magnetic jewelry.
King, who lived in Newburg, said she was drawn to Sisters after visiting her daughter in Bend.
"Everyone's been so friendly and helpful," she said. "It just spoke to me (as) the place to be."
King may have been looking for a change by coming to Sisters, but Abigail's on Main is not her first retail experience.
"I've been in retail for a lot of years," she said. "I had a couple of children's stores in the past. I love retail; I love people."
Her children's store background led to the naming of her store.
"My first children's shop was Abbie Ann's," King said. "Abigail's is sort of the grownup version of Abbie Ann's."
King said she has plans to draw on her past experience for content as well as a name. She's going to bring back some of the children's clothing she once designed.
"I'm going to pick that up again, so there'll be some children's clothing in here by next weekend," she said.
King said she is enjoying the welcome she has received in Sisters and hopes that locals and visitors alike will find something they like in her shop.
"I'm really just wanting to offer some nice quality products, nice gift things, that cater to everyone," she said. "Affordable prices, but good quality."
Abigail's on Main is located at 192 E. Main Ave. For more information call 549-6126.
