Born in Placerville, California, Ian Ferguson spent his early childhood in Golden, Colorado, until he and his family moved back home to the Placerville area in 1984.
He attended and graduated eighth grade from Camino School and attended El Dorado High School as a freshman before moving with his family to Sisters in 1995. He was the third generation of his family to attend El Dorado High School.
Ian played baseball in the Snowline Little League and soccer in the Sierra Gold Youth Soccer League. He played on several little league All-Star and TOC teams.
Ian graduated from Sisters High School in 1997, where he played football and was a standout on the baseball team and was voted the team MVP in his senior year.
He graduated from the University of Oregon and completed his master's degree in education. Ian also found time to coach baseball for the Sisters Little League and coached a year of junior varsity baseball at Sisters High School.
Ian was a lifelong San Francisco Giants fan as well as a fan of the San Francisco 49ers. As a University of Oregon alumni, he attended Duck football games, too. He also enjoyed fishing, and played softball when his schedule allowed. He was working for Frontline Energy Services as a project coordinator on a PG&E gas pipeline project in Fresno at the time of his death.
Ian is survived by daughter Samantha Spor-Ferguson, Phoenix, Arizona; parents John and Barbara Ferguson, Cave Junction and Sisters; brother Scot Ferguson, Sisters; Sister Mary (Ferguson) Dethlefs, Orland, California.
A memorial for Ian and celebration of his life will be held in Sisters on Saturday, July 25 at 3 p.m. on the deck at Bronco Billy's Ranch Grill and Saloon.
