Local contractors in Tour of Homes

Two Sisters Country contractors will have homes featured in the Central Oregon Builders Association Tour of Homes.

Central Oregon Timber Frame has its "off-grid" timber frame home in this year's Tour of Homes.

The unique features of the home are that in addition to its old-world timber frame design, the entire home runs on solar power for its electricity, in-floor heating, and all domestic hot water.

The Timber Frame model home is located at 67775 Cloverdale Rd.

"A big reason we built this home and offer it as a model is to show folks how comfortable and doable it is to depend on renewable energy and green building materials," said Doug Smith, owner of Central Oregon Timber Frame.

Laredo Construction will feature a new custom home at 64885 Old Bend-Redmond Hwy. in Tumalo.

"It's gorgeous," said Melinda McCorkle of Laredo Construction. "It's a beautiful piece of property. It's warm and very homey. It's a gorgeous house, but you don't walk into it and feel like you can't sit down and be comfortable."

Laredo Construction used a long list of Sisters subcontractors in the project, their first featured on the tour.

These, along with over 40 other homes throughout Central Oregon, will be open for viewing during the Tour of Homes. This two-week event is free to the public and being held July 17-19 and July 24-26.

A listing of the homes will be available on Wednesday afternoon at http://www.coba.org.
