Outlaw selected for Shriner game

Tyler Miller was one of 60 football players selected from all high school football players in the State of Oregon to compete in the 57th Annual Shriner Hospital East West All Star Football Game on Saturday, August 1, in Baker City at the Baker City High School Football Stadium.

Miller was the No. 1 draft pick for this game and is the only player from Sisters and the Sky-Em conference playing in this game. He will be competing on the East Team as a defensive end.

The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Network at 1 p.m. PST; pregame is at noon. Tyler also has a business window display at a local business in Baker City, displaying items that represent the Sisters Outlaws football team and Western Oregon University, where Miller signed to play for the WOU Wolves next season.

Miller received numerous school, conference and state awards for his performance on and off the gridiron while attending Sisters High School. He was being scouted by more than 180 colleges and universities during his junior and senior years.

Miller signed with Western Oregon University last February and will play for the Wolves this fall. He is majoring in criminal justice and will be seeking a career with the U.S. Marshal Service, U.S. Border Patrol or a state or federal CSI program.

He was a four-sport athlete at Sisters High School playing football, basketball, baseball and track while graduating with a 3.8 GPA. He is the only 2009 graduate continuing on to play NCAA Football.

On July 23, Tyler travels to the Al Kader Shrine Center in Wilsonville to spend two days at the Shrine Hospital visiting children in care. The East vs. West Shrine Game is a benefit game to assist with the over $2 million per day spent on medical care for children needing medical care from birth to age 23.

He travels to Eastern Oregon University in La Grande (EOU) on July 24, to begin daily doubles and triples training for one week prior to the game. On July 30, there is a walk-through of downtown Baker City to view window displays of all the players. At this time it is unknown which business has Tyler's display.

On July 31, there is a golf tournament for players, parents and friends at Buffalo Peaks in Union, Oregon. Participants can contact Buffalo Peaks to reserve a tee time at 866-202-5950. At 6 p.m. there is a player/family/Shriners BBQ at Riverside Park in La Grande.
