News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration will hold its 14th annual Country Fair and Art Show on Saturday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Festivities actually begin one day earlier, opening on Friday evening, August 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. with an art show featuring top-quality regional artists.
A visit to the country fair will provide a day of old-fashioned fun for the entire family. For the children there is a petting zoo, face painting, bouncy castle, puppet show and lots of games and craft activities. The new mustang horse show will be of interest to fairgoers of all ages. There will be several trained mustangs and burros to pet and other activities to introduce children to the mustangs, as well as demonstrations of training and gentling techniques and exhibits on the mustang adoption programs.
The art show will be held in the church's community hall. This year promises to offer a diverse collection of original, high-quality oils, watercolors, pastels, clay and metal sculptures, outdoor art, jewelry and other fine crafts. All art is for sale.
Upscale silent auction items, available at the Friday evening reception and also on Saturday, offer something for every taste. They include antiques, art and home décor items, two weeks at a Tucson condo, golf and fly-fishing packages, gift certificates for restaurants and spa treatments and more.
After all the activities, the fairgoers may be ready for a little relaxation and delicious lunch in the shade of the pines. There will be ribs and other menu items at the Café Transfig and fairgoers traditionally find it impossible to resist a dish of their popular homemade marionberry cobbler à la mode.
For the shoppers and bargain hunters, the Country Store offers homemade preserves and relishes, fresh produce, candy, home-baked breads, cookies and handmade craft items. The Good Book store offers a selection of resale books.
The Country Fair and Art Show is the church's major outreach fundraiser each year. Since its inception, this event has generated more than $88,000 in funds for community support agencies such as Family Action Network, SMART reading, Sisters Food Bank, NeighborImpact, Arts Discovery program and Saving Grace.
