Elizabeth Rose "Toots" Howchlowski

Elizabeth Rose "Toots" Hochlowski passed away on August 10. She died peacefully of natural causes.

"Betty" was born on December 23, 1920, in Seminole County, Oklahoma. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in education and began her teaching career at a military school, instructing young men who were not much different in age than she. During World War II, she interrupted her teaching career to work for the Navy Dept. ain Washington D.C. After the war, she moved to Los Angeles, California where she met and married Joseph Hochlowski in 1947. They had their daughter, Pat, a few years later and moved to West Covina, California.

Betty worked for 50-plus years as a teacher. She taught in the urban area of Watts and for the West Covina School District where she retired at age 65.

After the death of her husband in 1997, Betty moved to Sisters to live near her daughter. She made new friends in Tollgate and at the Sisters senior meal site where she enjoyed singing, laughter and bingo.

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her brother Cecil Ingram, and her parents Addie and Bat Ingram. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Mike Tabor; her devoted grandchildren, Ted de Winter, Jim Stout, Caroline Stout; her brother Frank Ingram; her nephew Joe Ingram; and her great-grandchildren Anthony and Veda.

A graveside service was held at Pilot Butte Cemetery in Bend on August 14.
