O'Hern returns to Sisters Video

Kate O'Hern has returned to her spot behind the counter at Sisters Video - and she has one particular goal with the store:

"I'm going to have fun with it," she said.

She's rearranged the venerable Sisters movie rental location and streamlined the rental process so that it's easy to pick from a wide selection of new releases and a strong back catalogue.

O'Hern is returning to her former business as previous owner Juan Sanchez focuses on his nonprofit endeavors to assist Central Oregon military veterans.

O'Hern recognizes that she faces competition not only from other local video providers but from Internet sources such as Netflix. She remains pretty unfazed.

"I think people still like to come in and browse," she said.

She's had customers do Netflix for a while then come back to renting at the store.

In addition to renting DVDs, O'Hern will use Sisters Video as a base of operations for her other business - Woven Wisdom pine needle basket kits.

The kits allow crafters to create Native American style pine needle baskets with full instructions.

"Yesterday I just had my first online order, so I'm pretty excited," said O'Hern.

O'Hern plans to offer regular discount specials and lots of family-friendly fare.

Sisters Video, 413 W. Hood Ave., is open 2 to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
