Event celebrates sisterhood in Sisters

Sisters will host its annual celebration of the bonds between women - sisters of the blood and sisters of the heart - in Sisters in Sisters, September 25-27.

The last day to register for the event is Friday, September 18.

This year's theme is "Sweet, Stress-Free Me" and (of course) that means plenty of chocolate.

The event features a menu of activities and workshops, including home decorating, making greeting cards, dance and meditation, building better communication skills and more.

"We changed up our workshops," said Susi Geren, who chairs the event. "We included belly dancing, wine tasting and self-defense."

Sue Kiry will return to offer her wisdom in helping empower people to be more successful. Lindy Gravelle will entertain with her eclectic musical selections.

Geren said that the event draws women from well beyond Central Oregon, including some registrants from the East Coast. Geren said about 110 women have registered so far, down from a high of somewhere around 150-170 in past years.

"We're low this year because of the recession," she said.

Still, the event brings folks to Sisters - folks local merchants will be happy to see.

"We encourage shopping of course!" Geren said.
