Junction City runs over the Outlaws

The Outlaws football team suffered a devastating 35-7 loss at Junction City (JC) on Friday, October 2. JC dominated Sisters through the entire game as the Outlaws were unable to stop the Tiger's rushing attack.

Sisters' offense turned the ball over twice in the first quarter deep in their own territory, but the defense played well and kept the Tigers from scoring. At the end of the first quarter the score was even at 0-0.

JC jumped out quickly in the second quarter, and by the half they'd scored three times and held a 21-0 lead.

Coach Bob Macauley said, "Fundamentally, JC is a better team. They controlled the ball at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball, and our offense wasn't able to move the ball against their stout defense."

Macauley told The Nugget that the Outlaws played better in the third quarter. They were able to move the ball on the ground and got some protection for quarterback Erik Carlson.

"I'm proud of Erik," said Macauley. "He stayed composed under some very adverse conditions."

The Tigers scored once in the third quarter and capped their scoring with a final TD in the fourth. Midway through the fourth quarter the Outlaws rallied and Carlson completed a 26-yard touchdown pass to Marteen Jimenez. The Outlaws got the TD to avoid the shutout, but lost the contest 35-7.

Chase Klient proved once again to be a tough player on the field and rushed for 108 yards on 23 carries. Bryce Alderman and Hayden Hudson played strong and performed well on the offensive line.

Macauley noted that defensive backs Marcus Arends and Brandon Morgan played extremely well.

"Overall, I think their coach did a better job, and so we've got to improve from the head coach all the way down," stated Macauley.

The Outlaws will host Henley in a non-league game on Thursday, October 8.
