News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws volleyball team notched two more wins this week and remain undefeated in the Sky-Em Conference.
Sisters defeated the Elmira Falcons on Tuesday, September 29, and two days later beat Junction City at home.
A much improved Elmira squad faced the Lady Outlaws on Tuesday, but the Outlaws won in three straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-7 and 25-20.
Coach Diane Bremer told The Nugget that the Outlaws had a slow start in game one and made too many unforced errors.
Sisters came out stronger in game two and controlled the pace of the game. Game three proved to be very competitive and the Falcons did a good job at the block and were aggressive at the net.
Hannah Harrer led the Outlaws with 20 kills and five blocks. Haylee Schaab had 16 kills on the night followed by Courtney Satko with 15 and Megan Minke, who finished with eight. Jessie Snow led the defense with 10 digs.
Bremer said that after the Outlaws' loss to North Bend in the semis of the Sisters Invitational and the unimpressive start to their match with Elmira, they spent some soul searching time together as a team in Wednesday's practice.
That time proved to be effective, as Sisters defeated the Tigers in three straight sets on Thursday with scores of 25-6, 25-8 and 25-20.
Haylee Schaab led the Outlaws with 12 kills, Satko had 10 and Minke, Mary Jane Schulte and Chelsie Reifschneider each added two.
Outside hitter Schaab said, "We have a very strong front row, with me, Hannah (Harrer), Courtney (Satko) and MJ (Mary Jane Schulte). Everyone is working together, and the younger girls are learning fast and swinging hard and Kaity's (Douglass) doing an awesome job at setter."
Douglass finished the match with 23 assists on the night and Snow had 10 digs and an impressive serving run of 12 serves at one point in the match.
Schaab and Douglass each recorded seven digs and Satko added six more.
Douglass told The Nugget that she's excited about how well the team is doing and said she has connected well this year with her hitters.
"The hitters and I are working well together. Even if my set is tight on the net the hitters are getting it in and staying accurate. They are mixing it up, which means they'll swing at it but they'll also tip it in the middle of the court," said Douglass. "That throws the other team off."
Sisters is currently 5-0 in league. The Outlaws will play a non-league match against Philomath on Thursday, October 8.
