Girls soccer team has a rocky week

The girls soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Cottage Grove on Tuesday, October 6, but bounced back on Monday, October 12, with a 7-0 shutout over La Pine.

Two days later the Lady Outlaws were defeated 4-0 at home by the Spartans of Marist.

Jody Reoch led the Outlaws to their 7-0 victory over La Pine in Monday's match-up. Reoch scored three goals for a hat trick in the first half with two assists from Zoe McAllister and one from Riley Barrett.

Goalie Sarah Small was moved to forward and also scored a goal in the first half, thanks to a great pass from Reoch.

Mindi Marr gave the Outlaws their fifth goal and Sisters entered the half with a 5-0 advantage.

At the 52-minute mark, Michelle Young scored an unassisted goal just inside the 14-yard mark to push the Outlaws to a 6-0 lead. Allen capped Sisters' scoring with a bullet into the net to secure the Outlaws victory.

"Breezy (Tewalt) kicked a corner kick and Marin (Allen) blasted it in with her right foot as it was in the air," said Goertzen. "The keeper didn't have a chance."

Goertzen added, "Eight of our girls have been fighting flu-like symptoms all week so I had a chance to really move kids around and make some adjustments. We just were not at full strength but we did keep up our intensity."

Two days later it was a completely different story as Sisters was shut out 4-0 at home by Marist.

Goertzen told The Nugget that his team played well the first 25 minutes and then, because of a mental error on the Outlaws' part, the Sparatans were awarded a penalty kick.

"They scored on the PK and it was the turning point in the game," said Goertzen.

At the half Marist held a 3-0 lead. The Spartans added one goal in the second half to secure the win.

"Marist is good," said Goertzen. "They beat us in every facet of the game."

In last week's action, Tuesday, October 6, the Outlaws suffered a 2-1 loss at Cottage Grove.

Sisters is currently 6-3 in league and 8-3 overall. The Outlaws will host Junction City at home on Wednesday, October 21.
