News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Donald Lafayette Mouser

Don was born on February 28, 1941 in Mt. Home, Idaho, to Raymond and Charlotte June Mouser (Kester).

He moved to Sisters in 1950 at the age of 9 and graduated from Sisters High School. After graduation, Don spent a few years in Chico, California as an auto mechanic before returning to Sisters.

Don started working for Barclay Logging Company in 1964 as a cat skidder. In 1965 he became a member of the Sisters Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the city council until 1977, when four other members voted Don to become the first paid fire chief for the Sisters Volunteer Department. Don held this position proudly until his retirement in December 1998.

Don's passion was his wife of 44 years, Carol Mouser (Beall), whom he married July 3, 1965; his two children, Raymond Mouser and Donna Lucas (Mouser); and three grandchildren, Kathleen Robertson, Donny Lucas, and Cassey Lucas. Don's other passion was his classic cars. He had a 1941 Cadillac which won the prestigious honor of Best in Class at the Concourse D' Elegance in Forest Grove, and a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air which he was working on just days before his death.

Don was a friend and mentor to many. If you needed to talk to him you could find him either in his office at the fire hall or at home in his garage working on one of his classic cars. He always had time to help others. Don will be greatly missed.

Don is survived by his wife, Carol Mouser of Redmond; his daughter, Donna Lucas of Sisters; grandchildren Kathleen of Reno, Nevada; Donny Lucas and Cassey Lucas of Sisters; and his mother, Charlotte Mouser of Sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Mouser; his sister, Deloris Hilliard; and his son, Raymond Mouser.
