News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Outlaws lost 48-0 to the No. 1 ranked Marist Spartans on Friday, October 23. Marist is not only ranked No. 1 in the state but is ranked No. 4 in the state at all levels, including 6A.
"We lost in what seems a very lopsided score, but we played a very good game and our defense played brilliant," Coach Bob Macauley said.
Sisters' defense gave up only one touchdown in the first quarter and held Marist to 20 yards rushing. On the other hand, the Outlaws offense was unable to sustain drives against a very tough Spartan defense.
"This was probably the toughest defense we've played against in all the years I've been here," said Macauley.
The Spartans held the Outlaws rushing attack to 63 yards and held Chase Kleint to 32 yards rushing for the night.
Sisters defense played a spectacular football game but the Outlaws offense and special teams put the defense in the hole. Marist scored 34 points in the second quarter and 21 of those points came from special teams and offensive miscues.
Macauley said, "Every member of the defense contributed. Jalen Miller intercepted a pass on Marist's second drive to end the drive. Connor Morgan and Jordan Hodges led the team in tackles with six and Max Stovall and Rodney Warner contributed outstanding linebacker play and contributed five tackles each."
Jared Nelson and Miller also each had five tackles in the game.
Macauley told The Nugget that the Outlaws had a great week of practice and it showed in the game.
"Their crispness was excellent," said Macauley. "They played with good heart and played every down hard. I'm pleased with their heart and desire to compete."
Chase Kleint said, "We still hope to make playoffs and to do that we need to win our last two games. I think that's definitely possible. Everyone is working hard in practice and good practice shows up at game time."
The Outlaws will celebrate with homecoming on Friday, October 30, against the Elmira Falcons, and seniors will be honored.
