Ten Friends updates Nepal programs

A dream shared a year ago is becoming a reality.

With this fact in mind, the purpose of the latest Ten Friends "friendraiser" was to update the Sisters community and Ten Friends donors about the nonprofit's latest activity and achievements in improving the quality of life for villagers in Nepal.

Brad Tisdel provided music for the evening.

Speaking to the crowd of approximately 100 people that filled the Sisters High School commons Saturday night, Ten Friends founders Mark Lamont and Rand Runco expressed their gratitude for all of the generous donors who make their program a possibility.

Tables lined with all things Nepal kept attendees occupied, as they browsed through handmade hats, shirts and gloves as well as photographs by Sisters High School teacher and Nepal veteran Karen Withrow.

After a filling meal of Dahl bat, rice and vegetables cooked up by SHS culinary instructor Janice Comfort, visitors enjoyed a video presentation that looked into the heart of Nepal and detailed the organization's projects, achievements and goals. SHS nurse and Ten Friends supporter Sally Benton talked about her search for and implementation of an adequate textbook to supply to Nepalese villagers who were days away from medical care.

A narrated slide show provided a real-world look at the application of donors' dollars, and a final opportunity for donations wrapped up the evening.
