News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

"This is a long overdue 'thank you' to the city and ODOT for constructing the paved multiuse path along Highway 242, from Hood Avenue to McKinney Butte Road.
"It's a wonderful addition to the amenities of Sisters. It's great to see so many kids using it. By increasing their safety, maybe it will encourage more students to get out of their parents' cars and to walk or cycle - all objectives in our Safe Routes to Schools program.
"But the path is not just for kids. It's a major step in making our city more pedestrian- and bicycle-friendly - as laid out in our comprehensive plan. I've seen so many adults walking and cycling on it. The other day I saw a man pushing someone in a wheelchair along the path. It shows us just how much we would all benefit from a lot more infrastructure like this, designed for walking and cycling, not for cars.
"Building this path was a condition when Hap Taylor opened his 242 gravel pit in the 1990s. But it languished for years, despite efforts by HTS. It was only with the appointment of Brad Grimm as the new director of public works, under the previous city administration, that things got moving.
"Under him, the city resolved design issues with ODOT, and then obtained ODOT financing to augment contributions from Knife River, the new owners of HTS.
"We all owe a large vote of thanks to those who made it happen: Brad Boyd, the mayor who put it on the front burner; Brad Grimm and his public works team who got the job done; and Leland Bliss, School District facilities manager, who gave it such strong support.
"Let's hope this path is just the beginning of many such efforts. Thanks for the work."
Sisters Soccer Club would like to thank its local sponsors and our out-of-town sponsors for their support this year! The season was a huge success and we could not have done it without your support!
