News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The No. 5 Lady Outlaws defeated top-ranked LaSalle (ranked No. 4 in state) in three straight sets and will head to Lane Community College as one of the final eight teams in the state playoff competition. Scores in the match were 25-18, 25-21 and 25-19.
The match was marked with high energy, and both Sisters and LaSalle played very aggressively on offense. The Outlaws were fired up from the start, but LaSalle never gave up and kept at it the entire
night.
Hannah Harrer sparked the Outlaws in game one with an impressive kill that got Sisters on a roll.
"Hannah crushed a quick set four feet inside the 10-foot line and that began to set the tone for our momentum," said Coach Diane
Bremer.
Mary Jane Schulte did a tremendous job at the service line in game two and was instrumental in the win. Sisters was down by three, 18-21, when Shulte stepped up to the service line, served eight in a row, including three consecutive aces, and took the Outlaws to 25 for the win.
Harrer led the team with 14 kills and seven blocks on the night and Haylee Schaab finished with 12 kills and three blocks. Schaab also recorded 13 digs on defense.
Megan Minke had an impressive night, was aggressive at the net and contributed eight kills and five blocks.
Harrer and Minke were both triple-blocked most of the night but even that didn't hinder their impressive play. Both players either hit it over the top or blasted the ball right through.
Libero Jessie Snow led the defense with 18 digs, and Kaity Douglass finished with nine digs at the right back position.
"Jessie did a great job in the back row," said Bremer. "She was determined to not let the ball touch the floor and she just kept feeding the ball to Kaity (setter)."
"Overall, the defense was great," said Bremer. "They passed well and served tough. They just kept passing the ball, and that made it happen for us at the net."
Sisters, Cottage Grove and Marist will be three of the eight teams represented in the final eight at Lane Community College. Sisters will play Henley, the No. 1 seed from the Skyline Conference, on Friday, November 13, at 4 p.m.
