Boys soccer names all-league players

Five players from the boys soccer team earned all-league honors this year.

Seniors Chris Waters and Kevin Marquardt were first-team all-league selections and senior Drew Harrison and sophomore Dirk Van der Velde earned second-team all-league honors. Scott Everson was recognized as honorable mention.

Waters is a smooth, talented player and anchored the Outlaws defense.

"Chris always remained poised no matter what the situation," said Coach Rob Jensen. "Talent-wise, he is one of the most talented soccer players in our league and could play any position of the field."

Marquardt led the team with eight goals and eight assists for the season.

"Kevin showed great leadership in practice and in games this season," said Jensen. "As the season progressed he got better and better and finished the year very strong. He always gave his best effort during games and outworked many of his opponents."

Van der Velde is also a very talented player and improved his scoring this season to five goals. Dirk also recorded six assists.

"Dirk's soccer skills stand out on the pitch," said Jensen. "He is our main go-to guy for direct kicks, penalty kicks and corner kicks. Being a sophomore, he's got two more good years ahead of him."

Jensen noted keeper Drew Harrison's contributions to the team.

"Drew gave the team confidence with his presence as keeper," said Jensen. "He worked hard in practice and improved greatly throughout the season. Drew was a pivotal part in making this team as good as it was this year."

Everson was also an instrumental part of the Outlaws squad this year. Scott scored three goals and recorded six assists for the season.

Jensen said, "Scott is also a very talented soccer player. He makes plays that seem impossible and has a great feel for the game."
