News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
It's a Sisters tradition.
Folks turn out to Sisters Art Works each December to enjoy displays of local arts and crafts, share a little holiday spirit with friends and get photos of their beloved pets taken with "Santa Paws."
This year's Sisters Art Works Open House is set for Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pet Photos with Santa runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Photos are $10 each, and proceeds benefit The Nugget's Furry Friends Pet Food Drive. Each pet owner will receive a 5x7 photo print for their pet's collection (to be picked up at a later date). For $25 pet owners can purchase a CD with the image to be used for greeting cards, etc.
The open house features artists ranging from glass crafters to soap makers. There will be jewelry and musical instruments. Many of the practitioners and artists who work at Sisters Art Works will also be on hand.
Also at the open house, local calligraphy artist and poet Hong Chi Zhang will be creating Chinese calligraphy.
As a fundraiser for Mr. Perkins' advanced Mandarin Chinese class trip to China next summer, individuals can have their name drawn in Chinese characters. Not limited to just names, request any word(s) you'd like to purchase in Chinese symbols. The one-of-a-kind pieces of art are suitable for framing.
Mr. Zhang and his wife, Hui Juan Tan, have lived in Sisters for the past six years. They are from Jiang Men, Guangdong China where they have two sons and two grandchildren.
Mr. Perkins' Madarin Chinese class will be selling raffle tickets for a quilt donated by the Black Butte Ranch Art Guild. The quilt is currently on display at Sisters Coffee Co. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the coffee company or on the day of the open house. The drawing for the quilt will be held at the end of the open house, December 5.
