News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Art has always been a part of Rachel Lovegren's life.
The Sisters High School senior has been involved in art classes at the high school since her freshman year. Mike Baynes, her art instructor and mentor throughout high school, has a deep appreciation for Lovegren.
"Rachel is not only a very talented artist but a great student, always pushing herself to learn new techniques and sets a great example for other budding artists," said Baynes.
Lovegren's art has been displayed in numerous shows in Central Oregon, in addition to those at Sisters High School. She plans to become a graphic or commercial artist after college. Baynes credits Lovegren with the success of the SHS sign business's success.
"Rachel has worked for four years and trained several students, earning hundreds of dollars for the art department," said Baynes.
The four years Lovegren has spent in the art room have profoundly affected the artist's plans for her future. She credits both Baynes and the art department as "the most prominent influence in my dream to become an artist. Mike Baynes' guidance, critiques, and patience have helped me find my own style and helped fuel my passion for the past four years. I consider him my teacher as well as my friend and cannot explain the gratefulness I feel for his sincere drive toward enhancing my art education."
The recent Coffee House art event was a highlight for Lovegren, who was a featured artist and received her very own booth to showcase her work, something she calls "a dream come true."
She adds that "displaying my art in front of my parents, friends, and peers makes me feel as if I am one step closer to becoming an artist."
