Sisters enthralled by 'Magical Voices'

The Sisters community turned out to make a full house at the annual Sisters Rotary "Magical Vocies of Christmas" last Sunday.

Austin Erlandson and Hayley Valoppi opened the evening with a rendition of "Baby, It's Cold Outside," and the Sisters Elementary School choir followed up with three songs including a rousing "Frosty the Snowman," which kept the crowd chuckling.

After performing "A Holiday Medley," Peggy Tehan brought the crowd away from the chilly weather gripping Sisters Country to the warm shores of Hawaii with "Mele Kalikimaka."

Sisters' demonstration of talents continued as Nicole Brewer and Lindsey Williams showed off their violin skills, followed by Emily Woodworth on the piano with "River Flows in You."

Nathan Woodworth left the audience in stitches with his "Twelve Days of Christmas," which included impersonations of President Obama sans teleprompter, as well as a forgetful George W. Bush. Woodworth also emceed the show.

The evening's performances were not limited to the stage, with Jody Henderson's Concert Band entertaining visitors during intermission.

Back in the auditorium, Erlandson and Janelle Johnson warmed things up with "The Prayer."

Henderson's Jazz Combo followed with three pieces featuring high school students Tanner Smith, Trevor Ford and Justin Erlandson, as well as Blake and Jody Henderson. Lauren Kirshner performed "I'll be Your Snow Angel," followed by Michelle Summers' choir, with "Carol of the Bells," "Dindirin," and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Rotary monies, which benefit music programs around Sisters. Presenting the checks was Sisters Rotary Club president, Kathi Johnson. The elementary, middle and high school programs each received $900, and the Sisters Charter Academy of Fine Arts, $100, for a total of $2,800.

Jody Henderson said that the contributions were "hard evidence" of the community's generosity and expressed his deepest thanks for the funding.
