Supper Club donates to food bank

Members of Sisters Supper Club welled up with emotion as they presented an $1,800 check to the Kiwanis Food Bank at the club's December 3 meeting.

Kiwanis president, Grant Cyrus, accepted the donation and thanked co-authors of the book "Dinner is the Evening."

The experience was overwhelming for supper club members who created and sold the book in 2009, specifically to raise money for the Sisters Food Bank.

"Oh my goodness, that felt good, I never expected to feel that way," said Diane Rodgers.

Making the presentation to a packed audience at the Kiwanis monthly meeting at Aspen Lakes, Rodgers and two other co-authors, Sande Burgess and Rennie Morrell, were taken aback and genuinely touched by the crowd's roaring response.

Kiwanis didn't seem to expect SSC's contribution would be so generous.

"We have been fortunate," said Sande Burgess, speaking to the group. "We have had tremendous support from the community, and being able to do this is a great pleasure for us and our very supportive husbands."

"Dinner is the Evening" gives tips and advice for people who want to start a dinner group or who simply love to cook. It has been featured in the style sections of newspapers in Bend and Eugene, and featured on COTV's "Good Morning Central Oregon."

It is still available in Sisters at Paulina Springs Books, Sisters Cascade of Gifts, and The Hen's Tooth.

"I wish we could bottle the feeling we had when we made our food bank contribution and share it with everyone who has supported us," said Rennie Morrell.

The Sisters Supper Club also collected canned and packaged food items for the food bank at the annual Christmas Party. They asked that their guests bring food items rather than the usual hostess gifts and had a tremendous response in many pounds being donated for the food bank.
