Kathryn Sowell, of Yoncalla, Oregon, passed away on December 5, after suffering cardiac arrest.
She was a life member of the Assembly of God Church. Her passions were God, her family, and the many years she spent serving children as a children's librarian.
Hobbies included reading her Bible and journaling scriptures, piano playing, swimming, reading, long walks, gardening, fishing, canoeing and traveling.
She was born on April 27, 1952, in Delta, Colorado to Norman Leroy Smart and Kathryn Zevilla Rudolph. She lived in Delta until 1978, when she moved to Bend. She married Donald Ray Garrett in 1972; they divorced in 1981.
She attended Central Oregon Community College and Eastern Oregon in La Grande, working towards a teaching degree.
She moved back to Delta, Colorado, in 1986 and served 12 years as children's librarian at Delta Public Library.
She moved to Yoncalla, Oregon, in 1999. She married Albert Sowell in Reno, Nevada.
She is survived by her husband Albert Sowell; brothers Scott Carrington, Smithers, BC, Canada; Tracy Carrington, Whiteriver Arizona; sisters Norma (Smart) Evans, Ozark, Missouri, Elaine (Smart) Myer, Spokane, Washington; sons Caleb Garrett, Sisters, Scott Garrett, Sisters, daughter Jessica (Garrett) Vitelle, Sisters; stepdaughters Tammy Valdes, Eugene, and Debbie Nelson of Sherwood; four step-grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her father, Norman Leroy Smart; her mother, Kathryn Zevilla Rudolph; and her brother, John Carrington.
Memorial services will be held December 19, 4 p.m. at Assembly of God Church, 975 Drain Section Rd., Yoncalla, OR.
