News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Lady Outlaws fell 49-25 at Summit on Wednesday, December 9, with excessive turnovers definitely contributing to the loss.
Sisters went down 18-1 in the first quarter, but came back and limited Summit to just three points in the second quarter, which enabled them to climb back into the game in the third quarter. Repeated turnovers in the fourth quarter resulted in transition points for Summit and blew the game wide open.
Coach Kevin Cotner told The Nugget that his team has to find a way to limit their turnovers.
"Were doing so many things well, only to shoot ourselves in the foot with wayward passes," said Cotner. "But, it was nice to see that there is fight in these girls as they battled back into the game from a huge first-quarter deficit."
Sisters did a much better job of getting the ball to the posts for shots in the paint, but Cotner commented that the team still needs to be more consistent with their offensive possessions.
"We must eliminate our seven to 10 possession scoring droughts," said Cotner. "That's what preseason is for; working out the kinks and making sure we're ready to play come January 5."
Susan Ruettgers led the Outlaws with 12 rebounds and eight points, and Nicole Meadors put forth a tremendous defensive effort. Chelsea McConville was removed from the game with a broken nose and will be out for a week.
Sisters were to play against Madras at home on Tuesday, December, 15, and then play at 1 p.m. at Central on Saturday, December 19.
