News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Letters to the Editor 12/23/2009

To the Editor:

The Sisters City Council recently voted to annex the land near the high school (Ed. note: McKenzie Meadows) knowing a senior living facility will be built at that location;

The investors are interested in the construction of a senior citizens' center or community center at the same time, when the cost would be lower than it would be at a future date.

They are concerned at the lack of interest in such a project on the part of participants in the COCOA (Central Oregon Council on Aging) lunch program.

It isn't that we don't care at all, but we recognize the limitations of our strength and energy to undertake the major task of developing a center for all the people of Sisters.

What is needed is a younger person or group of people in their 50s or 60s to take on the job. They are likely to be the people using a center for the programs that appeal to people in their age group.

There is talent and expertise out there in the community. Let's encourage some baby boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, to get behind the effort.
