Lady Outlaws earn win over Elmira

Sisters earned their first league victory with a 43-37 win over Elmira at home on Friday, January 8.

The Lady Outlaws missed several easy shots in the first quarter but only trailed by one, 8-9, at the close of the first quarter.

Sisters got into a rhythm in the second quarter, picked up the pace and their shots started to fall. Danelle Allen and Chelsie McConville each scored eight points to push the Outlaws to a 28-23 lead at the half.

The bench gave the Outlaws a breather in the third quarter and at the end of the period Sisters held a seven-point lead at 37-30. Sisters held on to win by six.

McConville led the team in scoring with 12 points, including two threes. Danelle Allen had 10 points in the game.

Coach Kevin Cotner praised the play of McConville and Allen.

"Chelsie and Danelle were huge for us in the second quarter when we went on our run," said Cotner. "Chelsie had a great shooting night and it was nice to see her get back on track. Danelle was persistent and aggressive in her attack of the hoop which is definitely her strength.

"This was not a pretty game for us," added Cotner. "I felt like the team was out of sync for most of the night but the girls kept competing."

Three days earlier the Outlaws were crushed 59-20 by Marist.

The Spartans transition offense and their offensive boards accounted for 80 percent of Marist's scoring.

"I was disappointed," said Cotner. "We got beat in every phase of the game. We were playing a very tall, very athletic basketball team but I'm just not convinced we gave them the best we had to offer."
