Girls break swim record

The foursome of Michelle Young, Tia Berg, Katie Stewart and Courteney Satko took first place and set a new Sisters High School record in the 400-yard freestyle relay in the last event of the January 20 meet against Stayton, Gladstone and Molalla.

Their time of 4:12.00 is 0.04 seconds faster than the old record, established by Courteney Satko, Hillary Johnson, Tia Berg and Felicia Pledger during the 2008-09 season.

The Outlaws girls "A" team (2:08.67) with Young, Berg, Stewart and Satko started the meet with a decisive victory in the 200-yard medley relay ahead of seven other relay teams. One of their biggest District 3 rivals, Stayton, finished second with a time of 2:16.28. The Sisters "B" team with Hillary Johnson, Cierra Tigard, Peggy Barrett and Samantha Williams earned a respectable fourth place with a time of 2:27.34.

Katie Stewart easily won the 200 yards individual medley in a time of 2:30.43.

Courteney Satko (26.90) and Michelle Young (27.65) followed suit and went one-two in the 50-yard freestyle.

The 200-yard freestyle relay was once more a highly contested event, with Molalla out-touching the Outlaws at the wall by a mere 0.38 seconds. Young, Berg, Stewart and Satko will face competition like this at district championships, when archrival Cascade will also be racing for a first place and automatic advance to the state competition.

Hillary Johnson added another second place with her performance in the 100-yard backstroke (1:21.11) and earned valuable points for the team score. Tia Berg rounded out the individual top performances with a second place in the 100-yard breaststroke. Berg's race was outstanding and her time of 1:24.77 put her 0.7 seconds in front of Gladstone's star breaststroker, Rachel Robinson. Molalla senior Debora Ragau won the event in a time of 1:21.43.

The girls tied with Stayton for second place (128). Molalla won the meet with 160.
