Hoopsters take down Junction City

The Outlaws boys basketball team recorded a 55-31 win at home over Junction City (JC) January 19, to bring their league record to 3-2.

Coach Rand Runco said, "JC is a really good execution team that wants to slow the game down. They run a spread offense and are very patient at trying to pick you apart."

The Tigers' strategy was very successful during the first quarter, and at the end of the period the Outlaws trailed JC 17-12.

Sisters increased their defensive pressure in the second quarter, which forced the Tigers into several turnovers. Drew Harrison downed a three at the buzzer to end the first half and push the Outlaws to a 28-19 advantage.

Both teams were very patient on offense at the start of the third quarter, and after four minutes of play the Outlaws and the Tigers had only scored two points each. With 1:50 left in the third, Rodney Warner drilled a three-pointer and gave Sisters a 10-point lead at 33-23.

Warner started the fourth quarter off with another three, and the Outlaws continued to put up the points. Zech Mickel scored the Outlaws' final five points in the game and Sisters recorded the win.

Sisters outscored the Tigers 27-14 in the second half.

Drew Harrison, Rodney Warner and Jalen Miller all had stellar performances. Harrison led the team with 15 points, including three threes. Warner contributed 14 points, including two threes, and Miller added 13 points. Miller converted three three-point plays and was 5-5 from the line.

"It was an important win that got us to a winning record," said Runco.

The Outlaws were to host Cottage Grove on Tuesday, January 26 and will host Marist on Friday, January 29.
