News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
People came by the dozens, threading their way through Sisters Art Works Friday evening to see the fabric art of Journeys, a local quilting group who presented their "Elements of Nature in Cloth."
Many of those who attended were themselves quilters.
"I'm a quilter," said a visitor from Bend, "but I'm not one of 'those' quilters. They're the best of the best."
The evening's show consisted of fabric art with an earth theme.
Quilter Joanne Myers, who was a friendly face teaching at Sisters' Stitchin' Post for nearly 19 years, presented a work in progress among her many works of fabric art on display.
Myers was inspired to lay her fabric in some very unique ways.
"I, along with several quilters here," Myers said, "am using a Karen Eckmeier technique to create this piece."
Eckmeier defined a technique in her book "Accidental Landscape," of laying fabric with the edges turned under, accented with topstitching.
"I'm a very traditional quilter, but this area has inspired me to try different things," Myers said.
