Cloverdale Road is getting some bridge work done.
Starting Monday, March 1, Cloverdale Road will be closed to traffic from Jordan Road north to Highway 126. County road crews will be replacing the existing wooden bridge over the irrigation canal.
The closure is expected to last approximately three weeks. Traffic will be detoured onto Jordan Road and George Cyrus Road for the duration of the construction. Only local traffic will be allowed access to properties during construction.
That's not the end of the work on the rural road that connects Highway 20 and Highway 126.
In April, county road crews will start a $1 million "grind-and-recycle" process to shore up the base of the road and give it a new surface. That process will not require full closure of the road, though traffic will be reduced to one lane as crews conduct the work.
"All that base is, is cinders," said engineer George Kolb. "That's why the road's in such rough shape."
The grind-and-recycle process grinds up eight inches of existing road, and mixes in cement to create a much more solid base. The road will then be resurfaced.
Kolb said the road will also be widened from a current 22- to 24-foot width to two 11-foot travel lanes with 2.5- to three-foot paved shoulders on each side. The shoulders are not bike lanes per se, Kolb explained, but they will accommodate cyclists.
