News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The Roundhouse Foundation has taken the presenting sponsorship for the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show.
"It's a natural fit for Roundhouse," said foundation manager Kathy Deggendorfer. "I can't imagine why we wouldn't do it."
The mission of The Roundhouse Foundation is to encourage community enrichment and economic development through the arts in Central Oregon. Deggendorfer has been involved with the show for many years. She created the artwork for the official show poster in 2007, and her foundation has funded multiple projects for the show including the successful Wish Upon a Card, fabric postcard fundraiser benefitting Wendy's Wish Foundation/St. Charles Cancer Treatment Center.
A primary benefit of the $10,000 sponsorship is having your organization's name in print in connection with the show, as in: "Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show, Presented by The Roundhouse Foundation." Roundhouse's acceptance of the sponsorship stipulates that they will not utilize that benefit.
"Everything is so commercialized these days", said Deggendorfer, "and I don't want to see that happen to the Sisters Quilt Show. I'm just happy to be able to support an event that is so important to our community."
Securing a presenting sponsor does not mean the quilt show doesn't need its traditional sponsor support.
"No, unfortunately it doesn't," said quilt show executive director Ann Richardson. "It is still a free event, with only business sponsorships, quilt sales and individual donations to cover the majority of the expenses.
"Our local retailers know the shoppers are coming, whether they sponsor or not. Thankfully most of them are happy to be part of the show. If you think of it as an advertising expense - where else could you spend $150 (a basic sponsorship) and bring in over 10,000 people? The presenting sponsorship from Roundhouse, along with other major sponsorships still to come, means we can keep it affordable for local businesses to stay involved."
The events hosted by the show include the Around the Block Fiber Arts Stroll on July 3, a 35th Birthday Gala Fundraiser on July 6, and the largest outdoor quilt show in the world on Saturday, July 10.
