News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Sisters sheriff's calls...

• A 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer was eastbound on Highway 20 near milepost 73 west of Sisters when the driver lost control in snow and icy conditions and crossed the westbound lane. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree, turning over onto its passenger side and sheering a tree off about five feet from the ground. The vehicle then went off an embankment and tipped up on its front before falling back onto the sheered tree stump.

The driver was not seriously hurt.

• Scam alert! A Sisters Country resident reported receiving a document titled 2010 Property Tax Reduction Form. The official-looking document offers assistance in reassessing and reducing property tax bills and requests a "service fee" of $189. The document appears a tool in a scam.

• A night of partying between two adult males and two juvenile females ended with a dispute with another group of people and the arrest of an 18-year-old for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The man took one of the girls' car when she refused to drive him to Bend at 3 a.m. It was a school night, after all.

• A man's pit bull nipped a woman after the dog got agitated because the man and the woman were

arguing.
