News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Outlaws baseball wins three in a row

The boys baseball team defeated Junction City (JC) 12-2 in five innings at home on Wednesday, April 7. Three days later the Outlaws played a double header at Sweet Home (SH). Sisters shut out the Huskies 10-0 in five innings in the first game and then notched a 21-8 victory in the second game.

In Wednesday's game against JC the Outlaws scored four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-2 lead, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Hayden Hudson and a two-RBI single from Chris Waters.

Junction City got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth and scored two on four hits to narrow the Outlaws lead to 4-2. Jordan Hodges hit a RBI double in the bottom of the inning to push the Outlaws to a 5-2 advantage.

Sisters drove in seven runs in the bottom of the fifth, went up by 10, and the game ended due to the 10-run rule. Hodges hit a double to score two, Brandon Morgan knocked in two, and Stovall scored one. The other two runs in the innings came via a walk and a batter hit by a pitch.

Hodges went 3-4 at the plate and Chase Kleint was 2-2.

Coach Steve Hodges said, "We've had a long lay-off, so it was good to play again. We got off to a slow start but got on track the more we saw their pitcher."

Sisters shut down the Sweet Home Huskies 10-1 in their first game on Saturday.

Max Stovall was the man of the hour and went 3/4 with six RBI. Stovall's big hit of the game was a base-clearing triple in the fourth.

Chris Waters went 2-4. Shane Groth was the winning pitcher and recorded six strikeouts for the Outlaws.

The Outlaws won the second game 21-8. Sisters took a 4-0 lead at the bottom of the first but the Huskies fought back and at the bottom of the fourth the Huskies were up by four at 8-4.

Sisters got eight runs in the top of the fifth inning which opened the floodgates. The Outlaws went on to win by 13.

Jordan Hodges came in to pitch in the fifth inning and didn't give up a run. Hodges recorded five strikeouts and was the winning pitcher for the Outlaws.

Big hitters in the game were Eric Carlson, who went 2-4 with three RBI, Max Stovall, who went 3-4 with three RBI, and Daniel Wiegand, who went 3-4 with two RBI.

The Outlaws had trouble at the mound in the second game of the double header and gave the Huskies seven runs on just three hits.

"We put too many players on base that didn't earn it, which was a little frustrating," said Hodges. "Jordan (Hodges) did a good job coming in and threw strikes. We came back with a big inning and shut them down. It was nice to come away with a victory."

The Outlaws were to travel to Pleasant Hill on Tuesday, April 13, and two days later play at Cottage Grove.
