Outlaws edge Crook County for tennis win

The boys tennis team won their match against Crook County at home on Monday, April 12.

At the end of match play the score was tied 4-4. In a tie break, whichever team wins the most total sets gets the win. Officials awarded victory to Sisters with a final score of 5-4.

Jared Schneider (No. 3 singles) easily defeated Gabe Alvarez 6-1, 6-1.

Jake Laasken earned a decisive win over Dakota Umbarger with scores of 6-0, 6-0, in his first singles match ever.

The No. 3 duo, Max Van Diest and Trevor Bulman-Jutte defeated Josue Lopez and Robby Gogshelidze 6-1,6-4. Van Diest and Bulman-Jutte worked well together and attacked the net to come away with the win.

Two days earlier, the Outlaws participated in the White Buffalo Invitational in Madras. It was a six-team tournament with a Pro-set, No-Ad and the first school to reach the eighth game was declared the winner of that match. The top two singles and top two doubles were entrants for round robin play.

Sisters did not have any players place in the tournament, but they did get wins throughout the day.

The best match of the day came from Colby Gilmore and Luke Gnos (No. 1 doubles) who started the day with a victory over Crook County (CC). Gilmore and Gnos served great and hung on for an 8-6 win. The duo also recorded an 8-7 win over Cascade.

Jake Lasken and Marcus Cooper (No. 2 doubles) played together for the first time and beat Madras 8-2 in their final match of the day.

"As the day wore on Jake played aggressive at the net and both Jake and Marcus improved their serves," said Tosello.

Ben Fullhart (No. 1 singles) defeated Cascade 8-6 and Bend 8-3.

"Ben had two solid wins," said Tosello. "He had a couple of opportunities against his Mt. View opponent to win there too, but a few key errors cost him some games."

Jared Schneider normally plays No. 3 singles but filled in at the No. 2 spot for the Outlaws. Tosello told The Nugget that Schneider played well and his consistent ground strokes mixed with solid net play helped Jared win 27 games.

Sisters will host Madras at home at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, April 22, and then host Burns on Friday, April 23.
