Girls tennis sweeps Madras in doubles

The girls tennis team swept Madras in doubles play at home at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, April 22. The Lady Outlaws defeated the White Buffs in a final score of 6-2.

A day later Sisters tied Burns 2-2.

In the match against Madras, Jen Houk and Elise Herron's (No. 1 doubles) strong baseline cross-court shots and their consistent serves were key in their 6-3, 6-3 victory over Shani Rehwinkel and Kayla Flowers.

"Jen and Elise really complemented each other today," said Coach Marti Dale. "Elise played great at the baseline and set it up for Jen to put it away at the net."

Olivia Miller and Kristina Sparling (No. 2 doubles) beat Sheila Nunez and Millagro Gonzalez 6-2, 6-4. The duo played an aggressive game and worked together for the win.

Nicole Webb and Lauren Rudinsky (No. 3 doubles) had good ball placement and strong serves, which set the tone for the match and their 6-2, 6-0 win over Celia Avila and Karina Romero.

The No. 4 duo of Tiffany Bigelow and Maddie Greene beat Lina Patel and Jessica Velasquez 6-4, 6-4.

"Their power shots at the net went down at the feet, and their opponents couldn't get it back," said Dale.

Becky Thomas (No. 2 singles) defeated Stephanie Stovall 6-2, 6-2. Thomas overpowered Stovall and had several serving aces throughout the match.

Chloe Stein (No. 3 singles) beat Elizabeth Gonzales 6-2, 6-4. Stein's deep shots to the baseline were very consistent and helped her take control of the

match.

Dale said, "The girls were real confident today. They were ready to play and compete. It was a great day."

On Friday, Burns only brought three singles and one doubles team to compete at Black Butte Ranch. Sisters No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles won their matches.

Marine Tresnie defeated Olivia Palmer 6-3, 6-3 in singles play.

"Marine kept her game consistent," said Dale. "She kept the ball in play, ran her opponent back and forth and waited for her to make the mistake. Her serving was very consistent. She usually got her first serve in with no double faults."

Jen Houk and Elise Herron defeated Rebecca Gibbon and Michelle Ebar 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo kept up the intensity of the game and had good baseline hustle.

"Jen and Elise set up textbook plays for each other," said Dale. "It was very well done."

The Lady Outlaws will host Crook County on Thursday, April 29, and on Saturday will participate in a four-team tournament at Black Butte Ranch.
