The boys tennis team beat the Madras White Buffaloes 6-2 at home at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, April 22. Sisters pulled out wins in four of their five three-set matches.
Ben Fullhart (No. 1 singles) beat Kesh Phillips 6-3, 6-2. Fullhart played smart and focused throughout the match.
Sean Tosello (No. 2 singles) defeated Joe Garcia in three sets. Tosello won the first set 6-2, dropped the second set 4-6 and came back to win 6-3 in the third set.
"Sean lost focus on his second set but came back with big serves and athletic net play to win the last set," said Coach Garth Tosello.
At the No. 3 singles position, Luke Gnos defeated Aaron St. John 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) in his first singles match of the season.
"Luke played very well," said Tosello. "He overcame some jitters and was able to pull out a close third-set tiebreaker to win."
Sisters also recorded three wins in doubles play.
Colby Gilmore and Jared Schneider (No. 1 doubles), in their first match together in doubles, beat Rodrigo Gasper and Cesar Zamora 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Gilmore and Schneider both had quick hands at the net which helped them win a lot of points.
Andy Thomas and Sam Quinn (No. 2 doubles) defeated Caleb Freshour and Alexsis Penaloza 6-2, 6-3. This was Thomas and Quinn's first time playing together, and they dominated the match.
"Andy and Sam played great," said Tosello. "Big forehands and good net play helped them get the
win."
Marcus Cooper and Cody Lane (No. 4 doubles) blanked Kenny VanPelt and Jesus Vazquez 6-0 in the first set and then beat them 6-4 in the second set.
Tosello told The Nugget that overall team play went up a notch in this match.
The Outlaws are scheduled to play at Crook County on Thursday, April 29.
