News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
To the Editor;
Mr. McGregor's last letter (The Nugget, Letters to the Editor, April 28) should have started and ended with his comment "I realize that I have no business getting attached to someone else's land. That land belongs to the Cyruses."
What a world we now live in that it is everyday practice to get involved in what you consider the wrongdoings of your neighbors.
It is also my opinion that I would fully support what ought to be a new special-interest group called "Hey, I'm a landowner. What the heck happened to my rights?" The title might be just a tad long and will unfortunately be a bit difficult to have as an acronym - HIALWTHHTMR.
It might well be a very small group that joins but that will work out just fine by me - too many opinions just get in the way of progress.

To the Editor:
Our daughter has been involved in girls basketball in Sisters schools for the past seven years. She has never been a star player, but has learned much about being a team player, self-discipline, and appreciated the opportunity to play a sport she loves.
We are writing this letter in response to the recent events involving our high school girls basketball program. Coach Cotner resigned recently. We have inquired about the details of this decision and the only absolute information available is that Cotner was not invited to return as coach next season.
He has not been given reasons that would sustain this extreme action. We feel the treatment of Coach Cotner has been very unfair and short-sighted. If it's a matter of his coaching style, shouldn't the players and parents have some say in this? So far, the only comments we are hearing from other players and parents is that this is very bad timing since last season was the best our girls have done in for a very long time.
We were finally gaining momentum. Now we are being told by the athletic director, Mary Flande, that they wanted to take the girls program in a different direction. What does that mean? A different direction other than a winning season?
As parents we're very concerned about how this decision was made and who exactly had the authority to exercise it. We haven't been able to get any clear answers (Bob Macauley is not taking calls regarding this). We know Coach Cotner won't be back next season, but we feel he at least deserves honest answers as to why.
