News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
The girls tennis team pulled out a 4-2 victory over Crook County at home at Black Butte Ranch on Thursday, April 29, and then lost 7-1 to Marist on Tuesday, May 4.
Crook County only brought four singles and two doubles teams to the match on Thursday due to the fact their coach had scheduled two matches for the same day. Teams battled cold and windy weather which included periodic snow showers.
Sisters' singles players won three of the four singles matches.
Marine Tresnie (No. 1 singles) lost 3-6 in her first set against Kelsey Kemper but came back with steady play and won the second set 6-2. Tresnie held on and won the tiebreaker 10-7.
Chloe Stein (No. 3 singles) dominated play and beat Anna Aviaria 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 4 singles spot, Maddie Greene had complete control of the match and beat Jade Anderson 8-0 in a pro set.
Olivia Miller and Kristiana Sparling, the No. 2 duo, beat Jaysm Abarca and Tiffany Panchez 6-0, 6-0 in a very decisive win.
The following week, Becky Thomas (No. 2 singles) was Sisters' lone win in their match-up against Marist. Thomas stayed on top to defeat Amy Miller 7-5 in the first set and then came back strong with a 6-2 win in the second set.
"Becky's first serves were very strong and consistent," said Coach Marti Dale. "She placed the ball and set up play to put the ball away. She is much more relaxed and confident in her game than she was at the start of the season."
Four teams, Cascade, Mt. View, Madras and Sisters, played at the Black Butte tennis Tournament on Saturday, May 1, under cold and snowy weather conditions. Coach Dale did not receive any final scores on the day but did note that Cascade took first-place honors. Mt. View and Sisters tied for second place in the round robin tournament and Madras finished fourth.
Dale told The Nugget that Marine Tresnie (No. 1 singles) was the highlight of the day. Tresnie served strong throughout and swept all three of her singles matches with wins over Cascade, Mt. View, and Madras.
"The team gained experience and honed their skills and strategy over the three-and-a-half hours they played," said Dale. "They did well."
The girls tennis team will host the district tournament at Black Butte Ranch Thursday and Friday, May 13-14.
