The Outlaws closed out league with a dominating 16-4 win at La Pine on Thursday, May 13.
Sisters found themselves down 4-0 after the first inning. The Hawks held the Outlaws scoreless until the third inning, when Max Stovall hit a grand slam home run and tied the game 4-4. Stovall crushed the ball and sent it sailing 385 feet over the top of the fence.
The Outlaws added one in the fifth when Jacob Rocco scored on a walk. Sisters held a 5-4 advantage until the top of the seventh inning.
Jordan Hodges started the seventh with a bunt base hit, followed by Rocco who also had a bunt for a base hit. The Hawks walked Stovall to load the bases. Rodney Warner singled to drive in a run and Erik Carlson suicide squeezed the next run in. Singles from Daniel Wiegand, Chase Kleint, and Stovall also scored runs in the inning. Three walks forced in runs and three errors by the Hawks converted into runs. It was an 11-run inning for Sisters and gave the Outlaws a 16-4 lead.
Hodges struck out three Hawks in the bottom of the seventh; one, two, three and the game was over.
Coach Steve Hodges is pleased with his team's progress this season, and told The Nugget that his team needs to do three things to advance in the playoffs.
"We've had a couple of real good practices and the kids are confident," said Hodges. "If we can keep the opposition from having big innings, hit the ball when we've got guys on base and throw strikes we should be fine."
Sisters (No. 4) were to play Junction City (No. 3) on Monday, May 17. The winner will play against Elmira.
