Foresters set for more burning

Fuels specialists plan to ignite an approximate 100-acre burn next to Black Butte Ranch and two miles north of Highway 20.

As weather conditions permit, this prescribed burn project will occur no later than mid-week. This project is a first-entry underburn for hazardous fuels reduction and forest health.

The projects will take one day to complete, with mop-up depending upon weather and environmental conditions. Patrols will take place immediately following ignitions, with overnight patrols as needed.

Motorists can expect potential smoke impacts to Highway 20 and Forest Roads 14 and 2068. Signs will be posted and flaggers will be on call if smoke impacts Highway 20.

Residents of Black Butte Ranch are advised to keep doors and windows shut to minimize any potential smoke impacts. Subdivisions in the Sisters area may experience some overnight smoke impacts due to the smoke settling with the cooler air.

All controlled burns are weather-dependent and completed in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Forestry smoke management plan. For more information, visit the Central Oregon Interagency Dispatch Center Web site at http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/fire.
