News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon

Letters to the Editor 05/19/2010

To the Editor:

It was a great pleasure to participate in the final interview process for the Sisters School District Superintendent.

During the process I was pleased to meet the talented students, faculty, staff and administrators of Sisters schools. I particularly enjoyed the community forum where I had the opportunity to talk with several parents who are working to ensure that every child has the opportunity for academic success.

Your district has weathered many storms, but what is evident is that the focus remains on student learning. I was deeply impressed with this commitment as I wandered the halls of all three schools. Students were visibly happy to be in school, teachers were engaging, and the programs were compelling.

I won't soon forget the enriching academic programs that have been implemented throughout your schools.

Finally, I was impressed with the dedication and deep commitment of the members of the school board. Being a board member takes a tremendous amount of courage and tenacity and making decisions based on what is best for students is difficult at best. Your board has shown unwavering stamina in the face of daunting tasks. They are to be continually commended for the unending hours they volunteer on behalf of all the students of Sisters School District.

I look forward to our annual family treks to Sisters with a new appreciation for the community which makes Sisters so special to so many people around the world.

Warm Regards,

Brook MacNamara, PhD
