Cole wraps up high school golf career

Senior Stephanie Cole played in her final match of the year at the 4A/3A/2A/1A Girls State Golf Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, May 17-18, at the Eagle Crest Resort Course.

Cole, in her second state tournament appearance, carded a 103 both days of the tournament to finish in the middle of the pack. Cole drove the ball well both days but had some trouble with her approach shot.

Coach Mary Flande said, "I don't think Stephanie played as well as she wanted, but the Resort Course is a tough course that can cause some trouble for you at times. In order to score low you need all parts of your game to come together at the same time and that didn't happen."

Flande told The Nugget that she was pleased with Stephanie's determination to keep grinding it out hole after hole, even when she was struggling.

Molalla won the championships with scores of 339-356-695 and St. Mary's was runner-up at 354-344-698. Marist took third (759), LaSalle Prep fourth (767), and Blanchet Catholic placed fifth (770).

Flande summed up the season: "I really enjoyed all the girls on the team this year. It was a fun group that came to practice every day, worked hard and improved throughout the season. It's been a pleasure to have Stephanie on the team these past four years, and we will miss her. Her leadership and dedication to this season has just been outstanding."
