Duathlon added to annual SAC triathlon event

For those folks who always wanted to be part of the Sisters Athletic Club's "Try a Tri" mini triathlon, but stayed away due to "swimophobia," the club has added a duathlon to the annual event, scheduled for Saturday morning, June 5.

"The triathlon has been very successful, but every year I have folks say they'd love to be involved, but can't swim too well, so we decided to accommodate them," said Tate Metcalf, of Sisters Athletic Club.

The triathlon's format is virtually the same as last year with a 425-meter swim, a 12-mile bike ride and a three-mile run. The duathlon will use the same courses for biking and running.

"The perfect aspect of this event is that it allows anyone who had never done a triathlon or duathlon a safe place to try it out, while seasoned athletes can also have a satisfying experience," Metcalf said.

Preregistration is required by June 2 in order to give organizers time to formulate starting waves. The cost is $50 for individuals, which includes a SWAG bag and shirt and lunch or $35 without. Teams are $40 per person or $25 without the merchandise and lunch.

Apparently a "grudge match" fundraiser may be forming between contestants Grant Cyrus and Michael Robillard with "bet money" going to local charities.

For safety reasons, no headphones/music players will be allowed during event. Registration forms are available at Sisters Athletic Club.
