News and Opinion from Sisters, Oregon
Sourdough Slim, the legendary vaudeville Cowboy and Western Music Association Entertainer of the Year nominee, is set to play at Slick's Que Co. in downtown Sisters for a special Memorial Day show on May 31, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Triumphant from Carnegie Hall to The Lincoln Center, Sourdough Slim is an entertainer extraordinaire.
From the moment this accordion-squeezin' Will Rogers swaggers on stage, it's apparent to everyone that they're in for a rollicking good time. Ten-gallon funny-man Sourdough Slim transports audiences to a whimsical world where vaudevillian camp and cowboy lore intermingle to produce grins galore.
Slim, aka Rick Crowder, is a well-traveled veteran of stages ranging from The National Cowboy Poetry Gathering to The Lincoln Center's Roots of American Music Festival and the Carnegie Hall Folk Festival. His fast-paced stage show combines cowboy singing, award-winning yodeling and comedy, accompaniment on accordion, guitar, ukulele and harmonica and a keen knowledge of the traditional Western repertoire.
Sourdough's astounding yippie-ti-yi style won him the 2001 Will Rogers Award for Yodeler of the Year.
As Cowboy Magazine editor Darrell Arnold puts it, "There's no one else out there like Sourdough Slim. An accordion playing, yodeling, tongue-in-cheek, cowboy-dressed entertainer deluxe. Catchy, uplifting, irresistible, jolly fun."
Slick's Que Co.'s owner Roy Slicker said, "What's there to say about Sourdough? Every time I've seen him, I've laughed until, well you know... Sourdough's performance is simply one of those things you must put on your 'bucket list' - a must-do before you ride off into the sunset."
He went on to say, "Getting Sourdough here in Sisters is a big win for Sisters and a great chance to see an incredible entertainer up-close and personal."
There is a $5 cover charge for this show and Slick's full barbecue menu will be available. Dinner and show seating begins at 5 p.m. The restaurant will clear at 4:30 p.m. Seating is limited, first come-first served. Slick's Que Co. does not take reservations.
