Outlaws fall in first round of playoffs

The Outlaws were errorless on defense for the second game in a row but just couldn't get the offense going in their state playoff game against Siuslaw on Wednesday, May 26. Sisters lost 9-4, bringing their season to a close.

Siuslaw scored nine runs off four hits in the first inning and took the wind out of the Outlaws' sails from the start. The Vikings came out ready and hit the ball when they had runners on base.

Sisters scored one run in the first inning. Chase Kleint got on base when he was hit by a pitch and Jordan Hodges followed with a single. Jacob Rocco went for the bunt and Siuslaw's pitcher threw wild to first. Rocco made it to first and Kleint scored for the run.

The inning looked promising with runners on base and no outs. However, Sisters was unable to get any more hits, and at the close of the second Siuslaw was up by a huge 9-1 lead.

Kleint belted a double in the second inning for an RBI to make the game 9-2.

The Outlaws' final two runs came in the fifth inning. Max Stovall hit a double to bring in Hodges, and Erik Carlson had a high pop to shallow right center to score Stovall for Sisters' fourth run.

Scores held and Siuslaw walked away with the victory.

Brandon Morgan was the starting pitcher for Sisters and was responsible for the Vikings first six runs. Hodges came in, finished out the game and recorded six strikeouts.

"Jordan pitched well and I'm proud of his effort," said Hodges. "We didn't have our No. 1 pitcher available (Shane Groth) and when you're at this level and don't have your best pitcher it's pretty tough. Shane played but he couldn't pitch because of a muscle strain in his shoulder."

The Outlaws finished the season with 20 wins. Sisters was third in league with eight wins and six losses and were 20-9 overall.
