Sisters couple offers rental campers

Renting a camp trailer is a reality in Central Oregon, thanks to Sisters couple Kevin and Karly Lusby. Their new business, based in Sisters, is called EZ Camp RV Trailer Rentals, Inc., and they have seven trailers available to rent for camping, to accommodate visitors or as hospitality units during large events.

The trailers range in size from a compact tent trailer to a spacious 29-foot unit that sleeps eight. In the RV industry, this is known as a "cats and dogs fleet" because each unit is different. Everything, including the toilet paper, is included in the rental price, and there is a delivery and set-up option too.

"Basically, all people have to show up with is their clothes, food and bedding," said Karly, though a bedding pack is offered as an optional extra. Other options include camp chairs and tables, coolers and barbecues. Prices run close to the cost of a nice hotel room.

The idea for a trailer rental business came after the Lusbys tried to rent one themselves for a gathering of friends held in the area. After discovering that the closest rentals were in Eugene, the couple decided to fill the niche, much to the delight of local RV dealers.

"They have been very supportive and we have good relationships with the dealers," said Kevin.

Renting a camp trailer is a good testing ground before making a large investment, said the Lusbys.

The couple met on a fishing boat in Alaska, and stayed in the fishing industry for many years. They traveled the world's oceans during that career, sleeping on narrow bunks in cabins barely large enough to turn around in. When they started a family, Karly stayed on land while Kevin continued to fish until an injury brought an end to that occupation.

By that stage, he knew that the next adventure would take place in relative comfort, and the Lusby's don't buy any trailer they wouldn't use themselves.
